Los cerdos son animales curiosos e intuitivos, tienen una inteligencia mayor a la de un niño humano promedio de tres años de edad. Son más inteligentes que los perros y tan amigables, leales y cariñosos como ellos. Cuando viven en un entorno natural, no en granjas, son animales muy sociables, juguetones y protectores que crean lazos unos con otros, hacen sus camas, se relajan en el suelo y se refrescan en el barro. Reconocen sus nombres, son capaces de jugar a videojuegos mejor que algunos primates, y llevan vidas sociales de una complejidad previamente observada únicamente en primates.” Los cerdos tienen una excelente memoria a largo plazo.
Siempre han tenido la etiqueta de animales sucios y lo cierto es que es todo lo contrario. Nunca hacen sus necesidades donde duermen, ni donde comen, lo hacen siempre en un mismo lugar que ellos eligen, suele ser en un sitio apartado. Carecen de glándulas sudoríparas, por lo que se ven obligados a revolcarse en el fango para mantener fresco sus cuerpos.
En el vídeo se ve a Guillem, que fue rescatado junto con Ramón de las inundaciones del Ebro a su paso por Zaragoza, donde murieron ahogados más de 10 mil animales. Al ver a Coque, uno de los fundadores del Santuario, se pone a su lado y se sienta imitándolo, al que responde a sus muestras de cariño.

Pig sits down imitating his caretaker
Pigs are curious and intuitive animals. Their intelligence is greater than that of a three year old human child. They are more intelligent than dogs, but equally loyal and affectionate. When they live in a natural environment, not farmed, they are very sociable animals, playful and protective. They build relationships among them, build their nests, relax on the ground and cool off in the mud. They recognise their names, can play videogames better than some primates, and their social lives are as complex as those only observed in primates. Pigs also have a long term memory.
They’ve always been considered dirty animals and truth is that they’re just the opposite. They never go to the toilet where they sleep or eat, they always do so in the farthest place which is usually chosen by themselves. They lack perspiration glands, therefore they need to roll out in the mud to keep their bodies cool.
The video features Guillem, who was rescued along with Ramón from the Ebro river floods in Zaragoza. Over 10 thousand animals lost their lives on that disaster. When Guillem sees Coque, one of the founders of the Sanctuary, he stays by his side and eventually sits down imitating his caretaker behaviour, responding to his signs of affection.
