Esta mañana nos hemos tenido que trasladar hasta Barcelona para llevar a Els Altres – Clínica Veterinariaa tres gallinas para esterilizarlas y también a la pata Auri, para que la visitaran por una cojera que lleva arrastrando un tiempo.
En las radiografías han visto una fractura antigua mal curada que es lo que le provoca la cojera. Como no tiene solución, tiene que tomar un tratamiento de por vida.
A las gallinas las esterilizarán a lo largo de la semana. El motivo por el que esterilizamos a las gallinas es para que dejen de poner huevos, ya que ese es el principal motivo de mortandad en el Santuario en las gallinas.
Las gallinas han sido seleccionadas genéticamente a lo largo de los años para que pongan el máximo de huevos, tanto que suelen poner unos 300 al año, cuando lo normal serían unos 30 huevos. En las granjas, tanto en las ecológicas como en las intensivas, cuando llevan un par de años explotadas, son enviadas al matadero al bajar su producción, por lo que el consumo de huevos las condena a morir si o si. La única manera de salvarlas es cambiando tu alimentación, llevando una vida vegana.

Today we’ve been to the vet once more.
This morning we have gone to Els Altres – Vet Clinic in Barcelona. The visit was to have three of the hens spayed, and to check the limping Auri the duck has been displaying during the past few days.
Auri’s X-Rays shown there was an old badly healed fracture which is causing her limping. There’s no remedy for that and she’ll be on a specific treatment for the rest of her life.
The hens will be spayed during this week. The reason why we spay them is to stop their egg production, which is the main cause of death within the hens who live in the Sanctuary.
Hens have been genetically modified throughout the years to increase their egg production, so much that they lay around 300 eggs a year, when the norm would be around 30 eggs. Farmed hens, either intensively farmed or free-range, are sent to the slaughterhouse after two years of exploitation when their egg-production decreases. Egg comsumption condemns them to die. The only way they can be saved is by changing your feeding habits and by adopting a vegan lifestyle.
