Cabritos felices

It’s nearly a month since we went from Girona to Galicia to pick up 11 kids who had been rescued from a farm.

This is the season when sheep and goats give birth. Their pregnancies have been programmed so that their babies dead bodies can be sold to celebrate Christmas in many homes.

The sheep and goats from the farm where Areceli and the other kids come from, had multiple births. That was a problem because there were many to raise and they would drink the milk meant for human consumption. The farmer’s solution was leaving just a kid for mother and keeping the others apart. Some eventually died and the others were fed to the dogs.

Eleven kids were rescued, but three passed away due to the terrible condition they were in.

The others are much recovered now and are eager to play, run and jump. They eat very well and feel stronger. They are happy kids who have known a different world where they are treated as equals.

In Santuario Gaia we devot our lives to give shelter to those animals who are being exploited, abandoned or abused. We work to build a better work for everyone.

Will you help us to carry on saving lives?
